Traditional Kerala Palakka Mala is thought to have first been worn during Sri Krishna's Dwapara Yuga. The necklace is characterized by its leaf-shaped lockets set on a strong gold base with emerald green inlays. A few small rubies are included in the palakka mala to provide a slight contrast to the green and to complement the color. The 'paala' tree gives the chain its reputation, and its leaves are made in glass or crystals. Earrings are the same pattern as the mala.
